Aug 7.12 - BLAZE ARE 2012 BC SENIOR BASEBALL CHAMPIONS!
The Blaze are the 2012 BC Senior Baseball Champions and will now represent BC at the 2013 Canadian National Baseball Championships in Windsor Ontario, August 2013.
The Blaze over the course of the weekend had a record of 5 wins with 1 loss. Game 1 of pool play was an extra inning win over Kelowna 8-7. Game 2 saw the Blaze dominate Trail 7-0. The last game of pool play saw the Blaze lose 8-0 to Nanaimo. With a 2-1 record, the Blaze headed to the playoff round as the #3 seed.
To start the playoff round, Nanaimo was seeded #1, Kamloops #2, Langley #3, Prince George #4 and Trail #5. As all 5 teams that made the playoff round had identical 2-1 records and Nanaimo gave up the fewest runs, they had a 1st round bye. As Kamloops had the #2 seeding, they then received a 2nd round bye straight to the championship finals on Monday afternoon.
Game 2 of the playoff round had the Blaze vs the hosts, the Prince George Grays. The Blaze came out on top with a 6-3 win. With the win, the Blaze then went on to face the #1 seeded Nanaimo Coalminers Monday morning. The Blaze came away with a 4-1 win with Jesse Peters throwing his 2nd game in 3 days picking up the win. This setup the Championship game vs the Kamloops Sun Devils in the early afternoon.
Graig Merritt of the Blaze started the game off with a solo home run in the 1st inning that got the Blaze going. 3 different Blaze hitters (Graig Merritt, Bob Foerster and Tyler Willson all hit home runs for the Blaze in the Championship game) Corey Parsons threw a complete game 2 hit gem (6-1 win) to get the Blaze their first Provincial Championship in only their 3rd year of existence!
It should also be noted that Blaze 1st base slugger Scott Webster was named the MVP of the Provincial Championships.

Aug 3 - 6 to play in the 2012 PWB BC Senior Provincial Championships.
The Blaze in becoming the 2012 League Champions, had to win 10 straight games after dropping the first 3 games of the year to Coquitlam. The Blaze and Coquitlam ended the year tied with 9 wins and 3 losses each. A 1 game tie breaker game was needed to be played on Wednesday night.
The game started out with a Jesse Peters HR as the Blaze took a 1-0 lead in the 2nd inning. Coquitlam scored 1 run in the bottom of the 2nd to tie the game. Coquitlam hitter Ryland Katherin then belted a HR of his own with 2 runners on in the bottom of the 3rd to take a 4-1 lead. Shawn Schaefer for the Coquitlam Angels was very good on the mound only allowing 2 more Blaze runs through 6 innings. The Blaze in the top of the 7th the scored 2 runs of their own to take a 5-4 lead, a lead that would hold up and send the Blaze to Prince George. Keenan Takatch picked up the win with Dillon Reynolds getting the save. Graig Merritt, Ricky Alvernaz and Bob Foerster all had 2 hits each to pace the Blaze bats.

July 14.12 - Blaze Weekly
Game 1 & 2 of the week had the Blaze travel to Seattle to face the Studs in a PIL first place showdown. Unfortunately for the Blaze, they were short staffed (pitchers had to play multiple positions) and they came out on the losing end 4-1 and 5-2. These were close games, especially with the lack of players showing. Games 3 & 4 were different on Sunday as the Blaze hosted the Kelowna Jays for the first time in 3 years at McLeod Field. Game 1 had the Blaze winning 7-6 and Game had the Blaze top the Jays 5-4. The Blaze PIL record, good for 2nd place is now 11-3.
Monday and Tuesday had the Blaze playing the BC Select team. Game 1 Monday was a 8-4 win and Tuesday saw the Selects come out on top 5-0. This was a good couple of games for the Blaze as they were able to help the top high school players in BC get ready for the Canada Cup tournament in early August.
The game of the week had the Blaze visiting Coquitlam. If Coquitlam won, they would clinch 1st in the PMBL and the all important 1st place bye to provincials over the August long weekend in Prince George. The Blaze needing to win turned t
July 7.12 - Blaze Weekly
The Blaze started the week up in Kelowna at the annual Canada Day tournament. Game 1 saw Steven Federau take the mound vs the Seattle Studs. He pitched great in the 4-3 victory allowing only 1 earned run. Steven continues to lead the pitching staff with an ERA of only 0.59. Game 2 say the Blaze win 7-6 over Parkland, AB. Blaze Stewart picked up the win. This win secured the Blaze the pool win and a date in the money round. In a game that meant little, the Blaze lost vs Burnaby 3-2. The game of the year was vs Thurston County in the quarter-finals. Unfortunately the Blaze came out on the wrong end 2-1. Jesse Peters was simply amazing as he tossed a complete game 136 pitch effort. This was a game that many will talk about for some time.
On Wednesday night the Blaze traveled to Burnaby to play the same team that won at Kelowna. The Blaze run-spread Burnaby this time 11-0 with Ryan Eiswerth picking up the win. The following night, Thursday saw the Bulldogs from Burnaby back at McLeod to continue the game that was suspended from May 30. Jesse Peters, who was the starting pitcher in that May 30 game picked up where he left off. The Blaze won the game in 10 innings 2-1. Peters threw 71 pitches from the 6th to the 10th inning. Game 2 of the night was a regular scheduled game that saw Peters start and go 5 innings, tossing 71 pitches for a total of 142 on the night. The Blaze picked up the win 5-2.
The Blaze are in Seattle Saturday to face a first place showdown with the Seattle Studs and then return home to face the Kelowna Jay Sunday at McLeod Field. Monday and Tuesday see the Blaze in 2 exhibition games vs the BC Select Team and then Wednesday night they travel to Coquitlam to face the Angels. The highlight of the week will come Friday night when the Texas Rangers Scout team arrives in Langley for a series of exhibition games.
June 24.12 - Blaze Weekly
Another busy week for the Blaze which saw them go 6-0. Game 1 was was an exhibition game vs the Collegiate Bulldogs which saw the Blaze win 3-0. Devon Stewart in his first start for the Blaze tossed 5 shutout innings while striking out 6. Game 2 was a PIL contest vs the Collegiate Bulldogs again on Tuesday night. The Blaze came away with 5-3 win with Steven Federau, again strong on the mound going 5 innings and giving up 0 earned runs. Game 3 of the week on Wednesday saw Coquitlam visit McLeod Field in a PIL/PMBL game. The Blaze topped Coquitlam 6-1 with Blaze starter Jesse Peters going 6 innings while striking out 7.
The weekend brought the Blaze up to Kamloops where they were scheduled to play a doubleheader. Game 1 started with the rain coming down steady. That did not stop the Blaze from coming out with a 3-1 win over the host Kamloops Sun Devils. Blake Stewart picked up the win, going 6 1/3 innings and striking out 8. Game 2 was cancelled due to rain and a flooded field. Game 4 and 5 of the week saw the Blaze call Abbotsford home for the day with EnFuego Baseball from Seattle visiting. Game 1 saw the Blaze run away with 10-2 win. Devon Stewart picked up his 2nd win of the week and Joe Germaine hitting his first HR of the season. Game 2 saw the Blaze win 8-2 with Steven Federau also picking up his 2nd win of the week. Of note, Dillon Reynolds, the usual closer of the Blaze played right field. He ended up hitting his first HR of the season as well.
The Blaze still sit atop the PIL standings, now with an 9-1 record.
Next up for the Blaze is the annual Kelowna Canada Day Tournament starting Friday. The first game is a well anticipated game vs the Seattle Studs. The Blaze and Seattle currently sit 1 and 2 in the PIL.
June 15.12 - Blaze Weekly
The week of June 9 was another busy week with the Blaze playing 5 home games with 1 away game rain-out. First up for the Blaze was a date with the Nanaimo Coalminers. The Coalminers always play the Blaze tough. That being said, the Blaze came out of game 1 Saturday with a 4-1 win. Aaron Dick picked up the win giving up 1 run on 4 hits through 5 innings. Matt Jones pitched the final 2 shut-out innings. At the plate Joe Germaine and Ryan Jensen led the Blaze with 2 hits each. Game 2 Saturday afternoon saw the Blaze win again. This time the game was a little closer with the Blaze coming from behind to win 4-3. Blake Stewart picked up the win on the mound, going 5 innings and striking out 9. Offensively, the Blaze were led by Zach Mihic and Brad Ferraro each picking up 2 hits.
Sunday saw the Everett Merchants visit McLeod Field for their annual trip north. Game 1 was won by the Merchants 5-0. Game 2 was another story. Jesse Peters was outstanding for the Blaze going 8 2/3 innings, throwing 123 pitches with 11 strikeouts in the Blaze 4-2 win over the Merchants. Merchants manager Harold Pyatte (NBC Hall of Fame) said after the game that Jesse's performance was one the best that he had even seen. The Blaze had several players with 2 hits during the game.
The final game of the week was Monday night vs the Burnaby Collegiate Bulldogs. This was a scheduled 7 inning exhibition game that ended up going late into the night as 12 innings were needed to decide a winner. Burnaby came out ahead 4-3. Of note, Clayton Howell who had not pitched in several years was needed to come in relief and was outstanding. He threw 4 innings, giving up only 1 unearned run, while striking out 4 Bulldogs. Shawn Schaefer, coach of the Bulldogs was called upon to pitch as well as both teams ran out of pitchers. The Blaze gave up 0 earned runs in this game. The PIL game scheduled for Wednesday night in Burnaby was cancelled due to poor field conditions. This game will be made up next Tuesday.
The Blaze ran their PIL record to 6-1 over the past week to sit tied for 1st place with the Seattle Studs in the PIL. Even more impressive is that the team ERA sits at 2.20 and the team leads the PIL in team hitting with a .305 average.
The next week is yet another busy week as the Blaze play host the Collegiate Bulldogs Monday (7pm) at McLeod Field in Langley, visit the Bulldogs again on Tuesday (6:30pm), host the Coquitlam Angels on Wednesday (7pm) and cap off the week with a DH in Kamloops Saturday (1 & 4pm) and DH Sunday in Abbotsford vs EnFuego Sports from Seattle WA. (12 & 2:30pm) All Blaze games can be viewed online through Blaze Game Centre above.
June 8.12 - Blaze Weekly
This past week was a busy one which saw the Blaze play 6 games with 1 rain-out in 7 days. The Blaze over those 6 games went 4-2. The week started out with 4 games Saturday and Sunday in Kelowna vs the Trail Orioles, Kelowna Jays and Kamloops Sun Devils. The Blaze pulled out a 4-0 win in game 1 over the Orioles with Zach Mihic going 2-2 and Matt Jones getting his 1st win of the year. Game 2 saw the Blaze offense heat up with a 10-4 win over the host Jays. Brad Ferraro was 4-4 with Blake Stewart picking up the win. Game 3 Sunday morning saw the Blaze top the Orioles again for their 2nd PIL win of the year. 8-2 was the score with Tyler Barlow going 4-5 and Karl Malecek throwing 5 strong innings for the win. Game 4 was the tough game of the weekend as the Blaze, who only had 10 position players for the 4 games dropped the game 8-0 vs the Sun Devils.
Tuesday night saw the Blaze visiting the Collegiate Bulldogs in exhibition game action. Steven Federau was great on the mound for the Blaze going 4 innings with only 2 hits and 5 strike-outs. The Blaze however dropped the game 6-2 as the Blaze bullpen was unable to hold the lead. Offensively for the Blaze, Clayton Howell had 2 of the Blaze 4 hits.
Wednesday night saw the Coquitlam Angels come to Langley for a PIL/PMBL tilt. The Blaze bats again were on fire as the Blaze got their revenge for earlier PMBL losses on the Angels with a 8-2 win. This was the 3rd straight PIL win for the Blaze. 8 out 9 Blaze players had hits with Mike Krische and Brooklyn Foster leading the way with each going 2-3 with a walk. This was the first game of the season for both Mike and Brooklyn as they recently returned home from a year at Canisius University in New York. Blaze pitcher Aaron Dick was strong on the mound again for the Blaze after starting pitcher Ryan Eiswerth had to leave the game early due to injury.
Thursday night saw the rain get the best of the Blaze as the game in Burnaby was washed out and will be made up at a later date. The Blaze are back in action this Saturday and Sunday at McLeod Field in Langley vs the Nanaimo Coalminers and on Sunday vs the Everett Merchants. Games both days start at 1 & 4pm. All 4 games this weekend are regular season PIL games. The Blaze currently sit in 2nd place in the PIL with a 3-0 record. The Seattle Studs are in 1st with a 5-0 record.
June 1.12 - Blaze Weekly
We will be posting a new Friday weekly recap here at langleysrblaze.com called Blaze Weekly. Highlights from previous games as well as what is happening during the week ahead will also be posted.
The one and only game this past week took place on Wednesday night at McLeod Field in Langley. It was a battle of the two top pitchers in the PIL in 2011 as Leon Boyd of the Burnaby Bulldogs and Jesse Peters of the Blaze went head to head. As expected, pitching was dominant by both. The only hindrance to the game was the presence of rain that would not let up. The game had to be suspended going into the 6th inning tied 1-1. Leon had 7 k's through 4 innings and Jesse had 8 k's through 5. This game will be resumed again when the Bulldogs visit McLeod Field again on Thursday July 5. Jesse Peters is still in the game with Jason Harynuk of the Bulldogs taking over for Boyd.
The Blaze are also proud to announce that the Texas Rangers scout team will be playing 3 games vs the Blaze on Friday Jul 13 (x1) and Sunday July 15 (x2). This will be some exciting baseball at McLeod Field in mid July.
We are also welcoming 4 returning collegiate players this week. Kevin McLeod returns to the Blaze from Lewis & Clark University and Devon Stewart, Mike Krische and Brooklyn Foster are returning from Canisius University. Kevin played on the Sr Blaze in 2010 and Brooklyn played on the team in 2011.
The upcoming week will be a busy one, barring the never-ending barrage of rain that the Lower Mainland is currently receiving. Saturday and Sunday have the Blaze visiting Kelowna for 2 PIL games vs the Trail Orioles with additional games vs the Kelowna Jays and Kamloops Sun Devils. This is an annual trip the Blaze make every year. Tuesday night sees the Blaze in Burnaby to face the Collegiate Bulldogs (Douglas College). Wednesday night the Coquitlam Angels are back at McLeod Field. (7pm) Thursday night the Blaze are back in Burnaby to face the Sr Bulldogs and on Saturday and Sunday the Blaze are at McLeod Field vs the Nanaimo Coalminers on Saturday (1 & 4pm) and Everett Merchants on Sunday (1 & 4pm). Everett will be the first of 5 USA teams that the Blaze will face this summer. Several of the above players may look familiar as most have played on the Premier Blaze teams which have won multiple provincial premier league titles. All returning players are local lower mainland residents!
